On Campus Students
Distance Education: Students who take primarily on-line classes and do not pay a Health Service Fee may utilize SHS by paying a per-visit fee in addition to other applicable charges.
Summer: During the summer months, students who are not enrolled in the summer session but who were enrolled the previous spring semester AND have enrolled for the following fall semester are eligible for care by either paying a designated summer session health fee (one fee for unlimited visits for that session) or a per-visit fee in addition to other applicable charges.
For more information on visit fees for Distance Education students and those students not enrolled for summer, visit our Fees and Charges page.
Alumni/Post Graduation: Due to anti-trust laws we cannot provide medical services to students who are no longer enrolled in classes. Students who are no longer enrolled in classes at ECU but need a follow up for an existing problem will be allowed a grace period of two weeks post graduation to see a provider. Graduates will not be seen for care of new problems or complaints as the grace period is only to follow up on previously addressed issues. Students no longer enrolled should secure the services of their own health care provider for additional health care needs, including physicals and gynecological examinations. SHS can assist with providing a listing of area providers upon request and can assist with referrals if applicable. Persons no longer enrolled in the university may request copies of their medical records at any time and are encouraged to do so for continuity of care when establishing with outside medical providers.
Students’ Spouses and Dependents: Spouses and dependents are not eligible for services at SHS.

Dependents & Visitors
Student Health Services (SHS) is a campus service primarily funded by student fees. While we enjoy and excel at providing high quality care, we cannot extend our general services to dependents or families of students or to the general public except in the instances described below.
People who are participating in a short-term university sponsored events, and who have been approved in advance by the SHS Director, are eligible for care during their visit to ECU. Examples include, but are not limited to, summer camps, orientation advisors, Walker Human Performance Center participants, Legislator’s School, and N.C. Teacher’s Academy.
In cases of urgent issues involving visitors to campus or family members of students, SHS will triage and stabilize the patient and then appropriately refer them to an outside provider for further care.
All above persons receiving care at SHS who have not paid a Health Service Fee with their tuition will be charged a per visit fee in addition to other applicable charges; payment is due at the time of service.
Special COVID-19 announcement: Students enrolled at other UNC System Institutions are welcome to utilize ECU SHS for health care needs, just as they do at their home campus. Please call (252) 328-6841 if you are a student from another institution needing medical care while in/around the Greenville area.
